New 50km speed signs have been installed just outside blackball to remind road users to slow down before entering the town.
Local residents were concerned that many drivers were not slowing down as they entered the township, causing safety concerns.
Blackball has become an increasingly popular destination and has seen an increase in vehicular traffic due to the opening of the Great Walk, Paparoa Track, Pike29 Memorial Walk and other local attractions.
Mayor Tania Gibson says that "it’s great to see that visitors were enjoying all that the district has to offer and that while visitor numbers increase it’s important that impacts on the local community are positive for everyone".
Council Traffic Engineers will continue to monitor driver behaviour in the area.
