West Coast Wilderness Trail – Keeping your dog and others safe
Who doesn’t love taking their dog for a walk on the cycle trail on a beautiful west coast big blue sky day, it’s such a wonderful community resource that we all deserve to enjoy.
Recently we received many reports from the community about off-lead dogs on the trail. Not everyone is as comfortable around dogs so leashing protects your dog, other dogs, and other people in spaces like the trail where it is narrow, bikes can approach quickly and there isn’t time to get your dog back on the leash.
Dogs can accidentally walk in front of bikes causing serious injury to your dog or a cyclist. Let’s work together to ensure the beautiful West Coast Wilderness Trail is safe and enjoyable for all users. Make sure your beloved dog is not responsible for your or someone else’s bad day!
If you are walking your dog on the cycle trail, please be responsible, respect your fellow cycle trail users and keep dogs on a short leash. The Dog Control Bylaw requires Dogs on the cycle trail to be on a short leash at all times. (Even if you believe them to have good recall).
