At today’s extraordinary meeting, Council adopted its Annual Plan and Annual Rates for the 2023-24 year.
Grey District Council confirmed an average rate increase of 5.99% for next year. This percentage increase will vary depending on a property’s value and rating category.
Mayor Tania Gibson said, “We are aware that any rate increase is not ideal, Council has worked hard to ensure we kept to the plan and not added any additional rates burden onto our ratepayers. We still need to deliver on our planned objectives for the coming year even though we are facing increasing costs for materials and services.”
The 5.99% rate increase is still within the 6% forecast in the Council’s Long-Term Plan.
Part of the final Annual Plan Council also adopted the introduction of a Green Waste Charge to help manage the increasing costs to dispose of Green Waste. A green waste fee has been introduced at our solid waste facilities (McLeans landfill and Resource Centres).
Council is committed and will continue to focus on achieving planned projects detailed in the plan.
Mayor Gibson said, "We have already begun preparations for the Long Term Plan 2024-2034 which will be a great opportunity for a reset and provide the community some insight and predictability on what the next 10 years might look like for us all”.
Anyone having trouble paying their rates is welcome to reach out to Council. We can discuss payment options to make things more manageable and other assistance that may be available.
