Precautionary Boil Water Notice - Blackball Water Supply
Consumers on the Blackball Water Supply are advised that Council has issued a precautionary boil water notice, commencing 9am today, Wednesday 23 August until further notice.
All drinking water should be boiled until further notice. A conserve water notice is also still in place, for the Blackball water supply.
In the community update last Friday, Council noted that recent poor weather had resulted in untreated water storage levels being quite low. That while better weather was occurring, if we were unable to increase water storage level, we would need to take surface water directly from Blackball Creek.
Untreated water storage levels were 28% on Friday and the level is now 27%.
Since Friday, Council Officers have ensured that water was taken at every opportunity. Despite these efforts, we have only been able to take enough water to supply demand. We have not been able to increase untreated water storage levels.
With this in mind, we will take advantage of the upcoming fine weather period to actively take surface water from Blackball Creek. This will enable us to significantly increase untreated water storage levels.
During this time, we need to put in place a Precautionary Boil Water Notice, as the water quality of the surface water may not meet requirements. Council will commence daily sampling and testing of the untreated water and treated water at the treatment plant, and at the reticulation sample point, in conjunction with the Precautionary Boil Water Notice.
Additionally, Council undertook significant leakage testing last week in Blackball and there are several locations of interest. Once we receive the results, we will be proactively investigating these and expect to resolve some leakage issues.
Council will update residents via our website and Facebook pages as the situation develops.
If residents require any further information, they should feel free to contact Council on phone 769 8611 at any time.
Council apologises for any inconvenience and thanks residents for their co-operation.
