As you may know, local body elections are happening this October. Here are some important guidelines to keep in mind:
Stay Politically Neutral – Council’s social media channels must remain neutral during the pre-election period (until election day). They cannot be used by candidates or the public for campaigning or electioneering. This applies to all channels owned or affiliated with the Council.
No Candidate Posts on Council Channels – Social media profiles that identify candidates (e.g., John Doe – Candidate for Grey Central Ward) cannot post on any Council social media channel.
Private Accounts Still Can’t Campaign – Even if posting from a private account (e.g., John Doe), candidates must not use Council channels for campaigning or electioneering—whether for themselves or others.
Election-Related Posts Will Be Removed – Any post about nominations, intentions to run, or election campaigns will not be allowed and will be removed.
Council Will Continue to Share General Election Info – We will keep posting about enrolment details, key dates, and voting reminders to keep the public informed.
