Greymouth is the South Island's first official Motorhome Friendly Town (recognised by the New Zealand Motor Caravan Association). Grey District Council welcomes responsible freedom camping within the Grey District.

In addition, there are a wide range of historic sites, leisure, shopping and eating opportunities on offer in and around Greymouth.
