At Monday’s Council Meeting, Mayor Tania Gibson was delighted to present an award to Ryan Mackenzie recognising his outstanding voluntary work in the Ahaura community.
Ryan is a member of the Community Trust in Ahaura. He looks after the day-to-day running of the Ahaura campground and the public toilets as well as looking after the Ahaura Hall, making sure it’s clean after use and completing monthly safety checks. He also looks after the local squash courts and arranges repairs whenever they are needed, organises and runs the local school disco and decorates the hall for school prize-givings and special events and runs the local clubs every Tuesday night at the hall.
At Christmas, Ryan set up and organised the campground for 100 scouts and helped cook breakfast, lunch and dinner for the six nights they were there.
Ryan set up and ran the 100-year display in the hall to mark the 100-year anniversary of the Ahaura Memorial Hall and he organised the first ANZAC service this year for the Ahaura community.
When younger the highlight of Ryan’s week was to help with the local water supply every weekend.
As required, Ryan also carries out other voluntary work around the community including mowing lawns and cleaning the school bus.
This is a pretty outstanding achievement for a young person!
Thank you from Grey District Council and the community for all of the work that you do.
Congratulations on receiving this well-earned award.
