You can browse this website without providing any personal information. The website does not automatically collect any personal information about you.

Privacy Act

The Grey District Council is required to comply with the provisions of the Privacy Act 1993. Personal information is collected, held and used in accordance with the principles set out in that Act. In particular, the Council will:

2. retain personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purposes for which it was collected;

Grey District Council (GDC) uses social media to inform and connect with the community. We do this through various channels including Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

We welcome comments and encourage interaction with our pages, and we ask that people are polite and respectful with their comments and views.

To ensure that our social media channels are used appropriately, we ask that people follow these terms of use.

Social Media Terms of Use

GDC reserves the right to hide or remove harmful or inappropriate content from our channels. GDC reserves the right to determine what constitutes harmful or inappropriate content.

We may delete or hide posts that contain:

• Language or content that is threatening, defamatory, racist, inflammatory, discriminatory, or offensive
• Disclosure of confidential information. Including contact details and personal or health information.
• Misinformation, disinformation or spam
• Commercial activity, including unsolicited advertising
• Unapproved use of Grey District Council’s brand
• Off-topic comments or information irrelevant to the thread of conversation.
• Trolling
• Content that is illegal, gives instructions for illegal activity or advocates illegal activity

This also includes hijacking posts with repetitive comments. This takes away from the original intent of the post and can be distracting for other users. Comments must be related to the topic of the post being commented on.

All content on our social media channels is monitored. Public comments that violate these terms of use will be either hidden or deleted from our page. The user will not be advised that their content has been removed or hidden.

If a user frequently posts content that violates these terms of use, they may be blocked from our page.

We may pass material posted on our social media channels to any third party, including Netsafe and the New Zealand Police.

We may disable comments on our posts at our discretion.

GDC accepts no liability for any material posted on our channels by the community, nor are we responsible for the content and accuracy of that material.

Our social media channels will not be used to promote or oppose any party or person’s political messages or other content. This includes any public comments made on our page during the election period by any political candidate.
