Working together for the future of the Grey District
Back in October 2012, key stakeholders identified from a cross section of organisations within the District were invited to be part of the Economic Development Liaison Group (EDLG) to help draft an Economic Development Strategy.
Chaired by Grey District Mayor Tony Kokshoorn, this group was responsible for overseeing and guiding the development of the Grey District Council's Economic Development Strategy, a ten year plan to help foster economic growth within the District. "This is a large scale, grass roots project that we're tackling" says Mayor Kokshoorn. "We're united in our desire to see this District grow and prosper".
Consultation with the community was done in two stages. The first stage asked the community to submit their ideas on how to help our economy grow. The second stage then asked the community to prioritise those ideas. Following the extensive community consultation, the 2013-2023 Community Economic Development Strategy was developed and subsequently adopted by Council on 12 August 2013.
Near the end of 2014 the Strategy was reviewed and progress on projects identified in the original Strategy was reported on. Council adopted the reviewed and updated 2015-2025 Strategy on 9 February 2015. The current Strategy is available to read here.
