What an incredible day it has been! We are honoured to extend our warmest congratulations to each of the
amazing individuals who were recognized with a Civic
Award at today's ceremony. These
people are the community
legends, quiet achievers and committed volunteers who dedicate hours to the community and go above and
beyond to keep the wheels turning in the background.
Friends
and family gathered in Council Chambers to celebrate each recipient as they
were presented with an award by Mayor Tania Gibson for their outstanding
services to the community.
The recipients of Civic Awards for 2023 are:
Mark Bolland
Mark
has dedicated over 35 years to Kotuku Surf Life Saving
Club and 30 years to the West
Coast Coastguard.
Patrick Byrne
Patrick
has dedicated 35 years to the West Coast Rugby League and 30 years to the West Coast Rugby League
Referees Association.
David and June Campbell
David
and June have been involved with Meals on Wheels for 50
years, hold 85 years combined membership with NZ Vintage Car Club West Coast and Nelson branches (June secretary 6
years; David Chairman Nelson branch 6 years), a total of 18 years with the
Runanga and Greymouth Fire Brigades and David has served the Greymouth Rotary
Club for 24 years, and was President for 2 years.
Nigel Efford
Nigel
has served 44 years with St John, since he was 10 years
old. He holds the voluntary position of St John West Coast District Youth
Manager and has done for 28 years.
Peter O’Sullivan
Peter
has served the Lake Brunner Wilderness Trail trust
from 2017 to date, Kotuku Surf
Life Saving Club for 22 years, West
Coast Marine SAR for 15 years and West Coast Historical & Mechanical Society (Shantytown Heritage
Park) for 26 years.
Judy Wood
Judy
has dedicated 50 years to the West Coast Federation of
Women's Institute, 25 years to
Blind Low Vision NZ and 20 years to the West Coast Horticultural Society.
Thank you for dedicating your time and energy to making the Grey District an even better place
for everyone. Your contributions to our community have not only made a lasting
impact but have also set an inspiring example for all of us. We are lucky to have you all as part of the Grey District community.
