Notice of Right to Demand a Poll on Electoral System

Grey District Council electors have the right to demand a poll on the electoral system to be used at the next two triennial general elections (2025 and 2028) for Grey District Council.

The choice is between the First Past the Post (FPP) and the Single Transferable Vote (STV) electoral systems. Grey District Council resolved on 4 September 2023 to continue to use the FPP electoral system.

A valid demand for a poll must be:

• Made in writing.
• Signed by at least 5 percent of eligible electors of Grey District Council. This will require a minimum of 502 elector signatures.
• Delivered to the Grey District Council office, 105 Tainui St, Greymouth by 5pm Monday, 11 December 2023.

If a valid demand for a poll is received after 11 December 2023, the poll will have effect for the 2028 and 2031 elections.

Every elector who signs a demand must also set out in it his or her full name and the address for which he or she is qualified as an elector of Grey District Council.
