October 16-22 is Recycling Week! This week we’re focusing on some of the ways we can reduce our waste.
Aim to purchase things that can be recycled, reused or repurposed
Review the items that we procure to check if they can be reused, repurposed or recycled
Find reusable alternatives
Reuse the items that you already have.
Avoid single-use waste by opting for long lasting reusable alternatives. A good place to start is your water bottle, drinking cups, takeaway containers, refillable cleaning or bathroom products, and food wraps.
Rinse and clean recyclables
Cleaning and separating are essential for successful recycling. Contamination causes issues at recycling facilities and contributes to recyclable materials ending up in landfill.
Make sure all containers and packaging are cleaned before recycling. A quick rinse is usually all that is needed.
Avoid producing landfill waste
Hunt out recyclable items and make sure you are recycling them correctly.
Find sustainable alternatives for non-recyclable items rather than sending them to landfill (like repurposing, repairing and donating).
