Contestable Grant Fund Awards 2023

At Council Meeting held on 31 October, 12 community groups were awarded funding from the Grey District Council Contestable Grant Fund.

Council received a great response from the community with 17 Applications received from local community groups, all vying for a piece of the $30,628 funding available. Each applicant needed to meet the expectations of council’s vision and outcomes for a thriving, connected, and resilient Grey District and had to demonstrate how the desired funding would support their organisation’s economic, social, cultural and/or environmental outcomes.

The level of applicants was very good, so it was quite a challenge to decide, and we didn’t want to disappoint anyone, however, we believe that the groups and projects awarded funding will all help with meeting Council’s vision and expected outcomes, we will look forward to following their progress and seeing the benefits this funding brings to our community.

The groups and projects that were awarded funding were:

Life Education Trust West Coast - to contribute to the operational costs of the Healthy Harold Programme $5,000.00

Blaketown Rugby Football Club - Security Chain Fencing, Field Protection Barriers

$1,687.00

Greymouth Anglican Parish “The Shed” - General running costs for the Youth programme

$500.00

Runanga Playcentre Playgroup - Improving supplies and equipment for the Children

$3,000

SPCA Greymouth - For Desexing Cats and Kittens

$2,500

West Coast Cricket Association - To maintain Arthur Fong Park

$2,000

West Coast Society of Arts - Creative Activation Team

$890.00

Arnott Heights Community Group - For Stage Three of the Arnott Heights Community Park Redevelopment.

$3,000

Grey District/Mawhera Business and Promotions Association Incorporated (BPA) - For New Year’s Eve 2023 Fire Works Display.

$7,000

Greymouth Boating Club - Solar Light Installation

$1,200

Grey District Youth Trust - Support facilitating Events, Projects and Activities for Youth

$1,000
Whare Manaaki o Te Tai Poutini - Community Garden $2,500

The application pool was large and unfortunately, Council was unable to fund all proposals. Council thanks everyone for the time and effort committed to submitting an application and hopes you continue to pursue your project. We shall inform the community of future funding opportunities as they arise and encourage those interested to submit another application for consideration at that time.
