Omotumotu
Bush Track has reopened with an awesome new bridge to greet walkers.
Constructed to
endure the test of time, the concrete slab used to span the bridge has been repurposed
from the Rough River Bridge removal. Lionel Boot, pictured working on the
bridge, said when he was around 19 years old and a young apprentice, he was
part of the team that made the slabs for the Rough River Bridge when it
underwent resurfacing. Now there’s some history!
“It’s been great to work on this project
and to see these being repurposed and for their story to continue,” Lionel
said.
Rock work on the banks of the Omotumotu Bridge Creek has also been completed to
prevent erosion under the bridge and protect neighbouring properties.
We think you'll
agree it's been well worth the wait.
