Grey District Mayor Tania Gibson is pleased to
announce the appointment of Paul Pretorius as Acting CEO of Grey District
Council, effective from tomorrow (12 March).
The appointment was put to Council at today’s
Extraordinary Meeting and was unanimously approved.
Paul Pretorius was CEO of Grey District Council
from January 1998, retiring in May 2020 after 22 years in the role.
“I’m delighted that Paul has agreed to return. He
will be a steady hand to steer the ship through the recruitment process for our
new Chief Executive,” Mayor Gibson said.
“We are very fortunate to have Paul available to
us as he obviously has a wealth of experience. Our focus is very much on our
staff and communities and ensuring we continue to provide exceptional customer
service to the best district in the country. Paul’s appointment allows us to
maintain business as usual while we work through our planning processes and the
various large projects we are working on.
“Paul is well respected by staff and is exactly
what we need for the next few months. His appointment allows us to undertake
the recruitment for our next CEO properly and not rush any decisions. I look
forward to welcoming him back to the fold,” said Mayor Gibson.
Mayor
Gibson acknowledged the process has happened quickly and thanked Councillors
and staff for their ongoing support.
