Press Release
Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund 2023-2024 Round 2
At Council meeting last night, Wednesday 22nd May 2024, eight community Sports Clubs/Schools were awarded funding from Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund 2023/2024 Round Two.
The Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund is designed to help subsidise travel for rural junior teams aged between 5-18 years, removing the barrier of travel cost so they can compete in regular sporting competition. The fund is administered on behalf of Sport NZ by 35 eligible Territorial Authorities across Aotearoa, including Grey District Council.
Council received a great response from the community with eight applications received from local community schools/Sports Clubs, for part of the $9,162 funding available.
Each applicant needed to meet the guidelines of Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund.
Eligible teams – applications for funding from Rural Travel Fund can be made by rural sport club teams and rural school club teams within the Territorial Authority region Grey District, with members aged 5 and 18 years, who require financial assistance and transport costs so that they can participate in local sporting competitions and events.
Eligible travel – a rural school club team will be eligible for funding if it is participating in a regular local sports competition out of school time, which excludes inter-school and intra-school competitions run during school time.
A rural sports club team will be eligible for funding if it is participating in an organised, regular sports competition through club membership outside of school time.
The level of applicants was very good, so it was quite a challenge to decide, and we didn’t want to disappoint anyone, however, we believe that the schools/sports groups awarded funding will all help with meeting Council’s vision and expected outcomes, we will look forward to following their progress and seeing the benefits this funding brings to our community.
