EDITOR’S NOTES:
The kerbside audits serve several key objectives:
- Promote Responsible Recycling: Encourage Grey District residents to practice responsible recycling by correctly sorting and disposing of recyclable materials.
- Minimise Contamination: Reduce contamination in the recycling stream, leading to greater efficiency in the recycling process and decreased operational costs.
- Environmental Sustainability: Ensure effective collection and processing of recyclable materials, conserving valuable resources and reducing waste.
Traffic Light Tag System
To provide residents with immediate feedback, a traffic light tag system has been introduced. Each wheelie bin or crate will receive a green, orange, or red tag based on compliance with the service terms and conditions. All audit information will be recorded and will aid in identifying compliance levels for specific properties or areas.
- Green Tag: Indicates no issues were found. Residents are commended for their responsible recycling practices and encouraged to continue their efforts.
- Orange Tag: Signifies minor issues. The bin or crate will still be collected, but residents will receive their first warning letter and a "Let's Sort It" flyer offering guidance on proper recycling procedures.
- Red Tag: Indicates significant non-compliance, such as excessive contamination or other violations of the Solid Waste Bylaw 2012. The bin or crate will not be collected, and residents will receive a warning letter and a "Let's Sort It" flyer with information on how to rectify the situation for future collections.
