Final Representation Arrangements – 2025 Local Elections
On 13 May 2024 the Grey District Council reviewed its representation arrangements and resolved that the proposal outlined herein applies for the Council for the elections to be held on 11 October 2025 and the triennial election in 2028.
Submissions on the proposal were invited. As no submissions were received in respect of the proposal it becomes the basis of election for the Grey District Council for the said elections to be held on 11 October 2025 and in 2028.
Council Representation
The Council will comprise 8 members elected from four wards, and the Mayor. The four wards reflect the following identified communities of interest (refer Council Agenda of 13 May 2024 for description).
Ward | Population | Councillor | Population per member |
Northern | 1690 | 1 | 1690 |
Central | 5110 | 3 | 1703 |
Southern | 3670 | 2 | 1835 |
Eastern | 3790 | 2 | 1895 |
Totals | 14,260 | 8 | 1783 |
In accordance with section 19V(2), Local Electoral Act 2001 the population that each member represents must be within the range of 1783 +/- 10%, unless particular community of interest considerations justify otherwise.
Per the determination, each community of interest enjoys effective representation and there is no need for Community Boards.
Based on the views of local Iwi, the determination indicates there is no need for the creation of a Māori Ward or wards.
