BOIL WATER NOTICE UPDATE – MONDAY 14 APRIL 10:30am
The Boil Water Notice remains in place until further notice for the GREATER GREYMOUTH AREA.
Affected areas include: Greymouth, Cobden, Blaketown, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville, Stillwater, Runanga, Dunollie, Coal Creek & Rapahoe.
We continue to closely monitor water quality and are providing the latest update following yesterday’s testing.
Two new, very low-level coliform results were detected:
- 1 coliform in Taylorville
- 2 coliform in Rapahoe
- No E. coli was detected in any samples.
We are continuing to increase flushing of the system, treatments, and testing.
Yesterday’s results are very low and would not have triggered a Boil Water Notice on their own. However, because a notice is already in place, we must continue to follow the required protocols. We are taking an extra cautious approach, as the health of our community is our top priority, and we are not willing to take any risks.
What this means:
Under the Water Services Act 2021, we are required to have three consecutive days of clear results before the Boil Water Notice can be lifted. Based on current progress, the earliest the notice could be lifted is Wednesday evening, subject to continued testing and confirmation.
We understand how disruptive this is to the community, however we want to reassure everyone that our staff and contractors are doing everything possible to resolve the situation.
We are working closely with Taumata Arowai – the Water Services Authority, and will continue to follow all regulatory guidelines and safety protocols. For more on their role, visit: www.taumataarowai.govt.nz

We sincerely appreciate your ongoing patience and cooperation as we continue working to ensure the safety of our community’s water supply.
