Precautionary Boil Water Notice Issued for Runanga Water Supply
A precautionary boil water notice has been issued for consumers on the Runanga Water Supply as of 8:00am this morning, Friday 18 October 2024.
This notice applies to residents in Runanga, Dunollie, Rapahoe, and Coal Creek following water line breaks yesterday and last night.
Contractors worked through the night to repair the broken water main. During the excavation, a sewer pipe was discovered with a pre-existing break. Both the water and sewer pipes have now been fully repaired.
Due to the proximity of the sewer and water lines there is a potential risk of contamination. For this reason, a precautionary boil water notice was put in place as a safety measure.
Council and contractors have taken extra precautions by flushing and testing the water supply thoroughly before restoring service in the Dunollie and Rapahoe area. This process has taken longer than usual due to the additional precautions taken.
Daily water sampling will now be conducted, and the precautionary boil water notice will remain in effect until we receive three consecutive days of clear test results. Should any contamination be detected the testing period will continue.
We will keep the community updated as more information becomes available.
