BOIL WATER NOTICE UPDATE – FRIDAY 11 APRIL 12PM
The Boil Water Notice remains in place until further notice for the GREATER GREYMOUTH AREA.
Affected areas include Greymouth, Cobden, Blaketown, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa, Kaiata, Dobson, Taylorville, Stillwater, Runanga, Dunollie, Coal Creek & Rapahoe.
Results from yesterday’s testing show that total coliform levels are now only present in the Kaiata water supply zone and have reduced significantly. No E. coli was detected in yesterday’s results.
We are confident that the steps we are taking are helping to reduce the levels of contamination. However, the Boil Water Notice remains in effect and must be followed.
Joanne Soderlund – Chief Executive Grey District Council states that “We understand the level of concern and inconvenience across the community in these instances, however we must take every precaution possible to ensure there is no risk to public health.”
Grey District Council is required to follow the regulations and guidelines set out in the Water Services Act 2021, which is administered by the Water Services Authority – Taumata Arowai. For more on their role, visit: https://www.taumataarowai.govt.nz
We are working closely with the Water Services Authority and based on current progress, the earliest possible timeframe for lifting the notice would be Monday afternoon, but this is subject to ongoing testing and confirmation.
We will continue to keep the community informed, and a further update on progress will be provided once today's test results have been confirmed.
The NZ Food Network has generously donated bottled water, which is currently in transit. We expect to have it available from Saturday 12pm for those who need it. Water will be distributed from Council’s Tainui Street carpark. We will confirm the exact timing and process on our Facebook page once finalised.
