Council would like to pass on its thanks and congratulations to new recycling wheelie bin users. Monitoring of the product being received at the sorting facility, from the new wheelie bin areas, show it's generally of great quality and clean. Please keep up the great efforts, to recycling and reduce waste to our landfill.
However, It is disappointing to advise that high levels of contamination are being seen from the original wheelie bin areas, generally described as the Greater Greymouth area (generally the Cobden, Blaketown, Greymouth, Boddytown, Karoro, South Beach, Paroa and Rutherglen areas).
Non-compliant products such as soiled nappies, knives, toilet brushes, general waste, non-recyclable plastics and products are being received in high volumes. Residents are reminded that the sorting facility at the McLeans Pit Recycling Centre is now fully operational and that products you place in your yellow tops recyclables wheelie bin are sorted and handled by our operations contractor. Some of the items being received are dangerous and hazardous to staff onsite. This cannot continue.
Council reminds residents of the approved recyclable products. All products placed out for recycling should be clean.
