Update from the latest weather event as it impacts Grey.
Some properties in the Cobden area have been affected by the winds (tornado) last night. In some cases significant roof damage has occurred.
The fire brigade is out assessing the damage and providing assistance.
Council's Building Manager is out undertaking damage assessments. If you have damage to report or require assistance please message us here, we will be monitoring this post and will pass along any reports or requests.
Fire and Emergency NZ are looking for large tarps and plywood. If you are able to assist please message us here and we will get in touch.
The good news is weather warnings have been lifted so hopefully now the issues that have arisen can be worked on and fixed.

We continue to monitor the weather event, with no issues being reported from either of our maintenance contractors.

Following the Civil Defence Emergency Meeting this morning the Grey District Heavy Rain Watch is now amended:
Grey area no rain warning.
Heaviest rains - more likely South Westland focus
Our readiness:
• Prepared for incoming event
• Clearing sumps, inlets, structures etc.
• Contractors on standby and ready to react
• Council staff available for circulation monitoring.

We have a weather event heading our way tomorrow with heavy rain expected.
Council and contractors are monitoring the oncoming weather event, and are prepared and ready to respond as needed.
We are expecting and have planned for surface flooding, slips and falling trees. There may be unexpected road closures and other potential hazards please take care and drive to the conditions.
Should surface flooding occur please drive slowly to protect properties and businesses in close proximity to the road.
