Council Lifts Sprinkler and Automated Irrigation Ban
The recent rain events have resulted in an increase in river and creek levels, where Council extracts water.
River levels adjacent to the Greater Greymouth water supply bores have improved from their lowest level, observed on 26 January 2023, by 0.35m, observed today, 8 February 2023. While this increase is great to see and has improved levels within our bores, this is not significant enough to fully remove the current conserve water notice. Council is however able to reduce the conserve water notice at this time.
As of 3pm today, the previously advised sprinkler and automated irrigation ban, is now lifted. This is both for the Greater Greymouth Water Supply and the Blackball Water Supply.
The conserve water notice will remain in place. We continue to request that residents be mindful of their water usage and keep up their great efforts to conserve water.
If sprinklers and automated irrigation are used, Council requests that they are only used for short periods. We are expecting a continuation of the dryer weather in February, which could mean that Council may need to consider reinstating water reduction measures.
Council will next review the current conserve water notices, for both the Greater Greymouth Water Supply and Blackball Water Supply on Monday 13 February 2023. An update will be provided via Council’s Facebook page and Website.
