The tender has been awarded for the next Grey District Council Roading Network Maintenance Contract.
After much deliberation at the Tenders Subcommittee meeting held last week, Isaac Group was awarded the contract and will take over the reins from Westroads in July.
The tender evaluation process was comprehensive, and in line with Waka Kotahi NZTA policy, utilising a tender team consisting of senior staff from across the West Coast District Councils and external experts.
Councils Transport and Infrastructure Manager, Dinesh Budhathoki says. “It is very important that we deliver an excellent service to the community, and this new contract with Isaacs will enable this. We will be working together on projects allowing for greater flexibility on the design, build process which will mean we can be responsive to the current issues and move quickly to provide solutions.”
The contract includes the maintenance of approximately 390km of sealed and 256km of unsealed roads, 209 bridges, and 106km of footpaths along with culverts, signs, and other assets. Street sweeping on state highways within the network is also included.
Whilst the initial contract period will be for 3 years there will be an opportunity for two 2-year extensions for a maximum term of 7 years.
Isaacs is a top performing contractor and stood out during the tender evaluation process, providing confidence that appointing this contract will deliver a high standard of service, further develop the Council’s road network operation and maintenance activities, and achieve best value for money on behalf of ratepayers.
Isaacs have committed to investing in the local economy and will be utilising local subcontractors and suppliers, training and developing local people, and providing attractive employment opportunities.
Isaacs recent acquisition of Liddell Contracting signals the company’s commitment to the West Coast and brings strong engineering, reseal, civil construction, and network maintenance experience to the Councils road maintenance activities as well as:
- A commitment to assigning experienced staff to establish the contract, including experienced local staff who will fill critical roles.
- Training and development of apprentices and local staff programs with a pathway for NZQA qualifications and school leavers.
- A strong track record for positive conservation and environmental outcomes.
Councils Group Manager Operations, Aaron Haymes, says that the Council has valued the service provided by the current maintenance contractor, Westroads, who have served the community well over the five year period of the existing contract.
