Slipway officially opened
Today Grey District Council celebrated the opening of the Slipway shed.
Mayor Tania Gibson led the celebrations alongside Joe Mason of Te o Rūnanga Ngāti Wae Wae who provided the karakia. Mayor Gibson did the honour of cutting the ribbon to mark the official opening.
It was fantastic to celebrate the opening of the slipway alongside the people and companies who worked to make this project a success.
Grey District Council was fortunate to engage with various local Greymouth companies throughout the project. These included Gray Brothers Engineering, Liddell Contracting, Dispatch and Garlick, E-Quip Engineering and Higgs Design. Reflecting on the success of the upgrade projects, without exception the businesses that the Port of Greymouth has worked with have been dedicated, committed and passionate about what they do, what they are achieving and being part of West Coast history.
The slipway upgrades and shed were funded through the Provincial Growth Fund (PGF). Warren Gilbertson, PGF representative, said the slipway was “another exciting milestone for Grey District Council and is an important factor in building resilience and connectivity for the coast”
“This is a very special occasion to celebrate the work being done around the slipway” said Gilbertson.
