Levels
Students will work their way through the following Swim School levels:
Level 1 | Our beginner level for non-confidents and those just starting to learn to swim - Students will become confident moving about the water and submerging. They will then progress to floating with assistance and experiment with finding their centre of buoyancy through the use of different equipment. |
Level 2 | The aim of this group is for students to progress from learning to float independently through to gliding, and to further develop good breath control. Students will learn their first valuable survival skill - rolling from their front to their back. |
Level 3 | The aim of this level is to teach students their first technical stroke - Survival Backstroke; they will learn the importance of this survival stroke and progress to applying it in a deep water sequence which will encourage all skills learnt so far. They will then be introduced to the flutter kick for their front and back. [Our Pre-School groups (3-5yr olds) work through levels 1-3 also] |
Level 4 | In this level students will master their flutter kick on their front, back and now side. |
Level 5 | The aim of this level is for students to develop their freestyle stroke and once correct timing is mastered they will be introduced to basic breathing techniques. Other skills will include their first basic dive, treading water, and an introduction to backstroke arm movements. |
Level 6 | In this level students will become comfortable in the lane pool - distance is not a focus - they will work towards half-length distances. |
Level 7 | The aim of this level is to continue a large focus on mastering the Freestyle breathing to help encourage bilateral breathing and to further develop their backstroke technique. |
Level 8 | The aim of this level is to introduce a little more distance and further develop Freestyle and Backstroke techniques, learn the Breaststroke arms and how it goes together, while being introduced to the essential Butterfly movement. |
Level 9 | The aim of this level is to receive stroke correction on Freestyle, Backstroke and Breaststroke while gradually increasing distance plus continual development of the fundamental Butterfly movement. They will learn how to perform the final survival stroke - Side Stroke. |
Level 10 | The aim of this final level is to improve stroke technique while working on endurance, and to intro Diving/Starts for races. Students will learn the next stage in mastering their Tumble Turns. |
Squads: Beginner Squad through to Advanced Squad | Once all 10 levels are completed we offer a Squad group option. This group is to encourage further distance and improve technique, develop Butterfly and get a taste for racing. |
